Apostrophe

Where would I put the apostrophe in the sentence ' The shop belonging to the butcher'. I am not sure if it is The shop's belonging to the butcher or the shop belonging to the butcher's???

That sentence requires no apostrophe. An apostrophe is used when one or more characters has been omitted. An apostrophe is never used to denote a plural.

The plural term "three butchers" is written thus, with no apostrophe.

The possessive term "the butcher's dog" is written thus, with an apostrophe.

The possessive term "its" takes no apostrophe. When "it's" is used as a contraction of "it is", an apostrophe is required.

This is the question I have : Rewrite these phrases, using an apostrophe in each one to show possession or a missing letter: 1. The shop belonging to the butcher.
I also thought that the sentence doesn't require an apostrophe which is why I am so confused.

You are asked to rewrite the sentence. Read the question!
