LAET

i’m currently in yr10 going to yr11 and i’m thinking abt applying to LAET but i have a few Qs.

1) what are the predicted grade requirements? do you still get considered even with 6s/7s/8s?
2) are there any barriers in ur application if u apply from a different part of ldn or if ur a disadvantaged student (e.g pupil premium/FSM)
3) is doing a coursework based subject (e.g Health & SC) at GCSE an issue? do they ignore your grade even if it’s a high grade?
4) are detentions a thing? if so, do u get them for dumb reasons?
5) are there any behavioural problems in this skl?
6) Lastly, are there any other sixth forms similar to LAET (preferably one that’s not a secondary skl)
thanks!

Apply for the open day and ask those same questions. I will hopefully be a yr12 there so I could tell you. But for now your not really going to get anything in depth. Unless a yr13 (moving) is kinda enough to answer.

yhh laet doesn’t offer further maths :frown:( but i’m pretty sure the stratford one does. i’m pretty sure core maths is similar to an EPQ in a way and is just an ‘extra qualification’ don’t take my word for it tho, i suggest researching

1) You would want at least 7 grade 7s for a good chance and try come early on results day so spaces aren’t taken up.
2) You will have a better opportunity if you’re disadvantaged.
3) No
4) Yes I get them all the time for the dumbest reasons. I once got one for actually doing the hw but the teacher thought I didn’t.
5) Nah it’s mostly just NPCs that go there.
6) LAE Stratford, NCS, Brampton Manor,

Hi, I currently study at LAET.
1) The entry requirements are 5 grade 7's minimum with some subjects like further maths requiring an 8 in maths but yes I achieved some 9's but majority 8 and got in.
2) LAET website has on their website which postcodes that fit their range however I know many people who live in south london and still attend the school
3) I think that any subject that is a GCSE will be treated equally however im not sure about btechs but i do know some people that may have done 1 btech and got into LAET. Its more importnat that your gcse's meet the requirements for certain subject E.G. Alevel history= 7 in gcse history
4) Detentions are still a thing and are given for typical school reasons like multiple lates or missed hw too many times but I wouldn't say the school is necessarily strict but may prioritise certain values
5) It's a very academically rigorous school so although all schools come with its challenges behvioural problems is the least of anybody's issue
6) Depending on area I would personally say LAET ranks in the top london non- selective schools along with LAE stratford, NCS, and Brampton Manor but grammar schools you could also look at as their entry requirements would be very similar
