Questions about University of Bath accomodation! (for current students)

I recently accepted my accomodation in malborough court in bath. I was firstly wondering if I should buy a mattress topper because every website/vid I see says to bring one but apparently it's provided already?
what did other students do? (maybe a stupid question sorry)

Secondly, I was wondering if the space under the bed in malborough/ solsbury is high enough to fit storage boxes/ clothes boxes because that would be so helpful.

Any other advice about accomodation at bath would be appreciated!

Hello Anon!

Huge congratulations on getting into Bath, I’m sure you worked extremely hard to get here 😊

Personally I think you chose a really nice option for accommodation, as Marlborough court is on the East side of campus rather than the West side, which is closer to the Lime Tree café, the bus terminal, the beautiful Chancellors’ building and in my opinion is the prettier, less built up side of campus. When I was a student here I did not bring a mattress topper, (if by mattress topper you mean a sheet of foam to make it softer) but if this helps you then do feel free to bring one. The bed does come with a mattress protector but you’ll also need to bring your own bedding (duvet, pillows) and sheets/covers) or borrow it from the accomodation ops team.

The bed I would say is not tall enough to fit anything under it taller than around 30cm. On that basis I’d say no to storage boxes, but possibly yes to suitcases, or underbed storage drawers. I personally used large Ikea bags and canvas bags to store my textbooks and some clothes under my bed and they worked fine.

I really help that helps but if you have any more questions then please do post on here or email our accommodation Reslife team: [email protected]!

Best wishes

Hi! Do you think the height of the bed is tall enough to get away with a small double duvet or would it be trailing on the floor?

Hiya! I had a similar single bed in first year (in Westwood) and brought a standard double duvet which I think was a good idea because single duvets are just too small in my opinion. You can always tuck the excess material in around the mattress. It also meant I was able to use the same duvet every year even when I upgraded to a double bed in the later years.

However if my standard double did untuck itself it would definitely trail on the floor and I imagine a small double would too especially if it was a uneven on the bed, so if that's a big issue for you it may be something to reconsider.

As for specific measurements I am not too sure but the beds do seem quite close to the ground.

Does anybody know the floor plan for the ground floor in Solsbury court? Is there a studio apartment at the back of the building or are rooms 4&5 back to back at that side? Trying to figure out where my room might be!
