Hi I've moved your thread to the uni life forum, as above the Ask Student Finance England forum is for questions about applying for student loans with SFE

Hiya!

I am sure there are some potential job opportunities at Westminster, perhaps someone can provide some insight on this platform, or you can do some research online!

But as a student at De Montfort University I am happy to let you know about the job opportunities that are available here in Leicester! 😃

One of my part time jobs is being an Ambassador for the university. We have different types of Ambassadors such as Student Ambassadors, Telemarketing Ambassadors, Faculty Ambassadors and even Content Ambassadors. Being an Ambassador for the university is honestly a great part time job and I find that there are many benefits. Not only are you earning an income, adding to your university experience and building up your CV, you are also professionally networking and being presented to take part in some amazing opportunities. Some experiences I have been paid to take part in are speaking at conferences, working with schools, working in the community, delivering campus tours, creating social media content - and even recently I worked at a DMU staff Scavenger Hunt handing out clues in the city. As you can see the shifts are varied and I often find them quite enjoyable 😁, and it’s a great way to connect with others whether that’s hiring managers or fellow students. In addition it is a zero hour contract which is great as it provides flexibility as you can choose when and how often you would like to work.

Besides being an Ambassador, there are plenty of other jobs available based on the university campus. For example, we also have the opportunity for students to apply to be a Frontrunner - which is a paid internship scheme. There are many and various Frontrunner positions available which again is a fantastic opportunity to earn, boost your CV and network professionally. Excitingly, I am starting my frontrunner position in October as Heart Safe Campus Co-ordinator which I am incredibly looking forward to and I think it will also be quite interesting too! I am aware that there are other jobs available too, whether that is working in a research centre, working in our Food village and / or café outlets and working at our Student Union.

The Careers Team at De Montfort University are incredibly helpful and amazing at what they do - literally they have been named best in the country for 2024! So, I am sure they will be happy to help any further and inform yourself on any other part-time jobs that you can pick up whilst being a current student with us.

In addition, by Leicester City being only a 10 minute walk max from our campus there is the opportunity to find work within the city - I have a few friends that work in the city. If you have not been to Leicester before there are plenty of shops, food outlets, bars, and activity venues so perhaps there is work available at any of these establishments - or even seasonal work as in my first year at DMU from October-January I worked as a Christmas temp at Tesco.

I would also recommend looking at the individual companies / business website themselves for any vacancies, their social media and any job sites such as Linkedin, Indeed, and Unitemps. Speaking of Unitemps this is a university owned, campus-based recruitment service that helps students find temp and part-time employment and being an Ambassador for the university is under this. But I also know that they advertise plenty of other job opportunities for students such as translators, retail supervisors, Bar and event staff and Personal Assistants etc so this would be a very useful website to look at!

I hope this has been helpful and provided some insight and I will be happy to help further
