Should I take a French A-level

Hi I'm currently going into year 12 and I am worried about taking French. I love the culture and learning the language but after having a supply for the whole of y10 has sent me back and I feel like I'd be starting a year behind everyone else. Does anyone have any tips?

As someone that has no idea about A level subjects as I only did IGCSE and if I would have done A levels, my school wouldn't have had this as an option. The simpler bare bones advice How much did you like French and do you have any professional aspirations for it ( even if they are undefined or and or JUST in the world of freelance)? ( you say you like the culture and all at least that's a good starting point, but think of it the other way around, how annoying are the annoying things about the language ( like grammar and pronunciation) )

Your answer to this question will reveal alot but ofc Ytbers and other seniors ( to you I mean) might have valuable input on the more day to day matters of the subject

Also, I have a B1 level despite learning French from June 2019- June 2020 and then picking it back up in June 20203 ( I needed around 1-2 weeks to get caught up with the A1 stuff, I have no idea how long that took precisely), so if I could do it after a gap ( which is presuming that you had one to, based on my understanding of what you said) then you can too

I hope this helps:smile:)))
If you have any other concerns, feel free to reach out

hi! i’ve just finished y13 studying french and spanish a-levels🤎my experience was a little unconventional but i think it could help you out- i studied spanish gcse in 1 year (year10) after having never done any spanish in my life, then i did french in y11 and no Spanish because i’d finished it. going into a levels i worried i would be SO BEHIND because no-one else had done the 1 year thing + everyone else had been doing spanish for 5 years. but the way the course is taught means you review everything as you build on it, i have never been behind in a measurable way despite my random circumstances so hopefully it would be the same for you! best of luck, French a-level was a lot of fun 💗
