on results day do more courses become available through clearing

I am starting to think that i don’t want to go to either my firm or insurance choices and so have been looking at clearing. For my course and my preference of where i want to go there is nothing of interest, so just asking if on results day there may be more courses than there are already that will become available (depending on everyone else’s results) or if the only options are the courses that are up at the moment.

Clearing courses are added and removed from the listings throughout July, August and September.

Many Unis will put list of their Clearing vacancies on their websites the night before Results Day - just make sure that you are looking at the right UK/International vacancies.
Hi mialaw50,

Firstly, I just wanted to say it is totally okay to change your mind!

You can have a look here at our options, although, it could change massively change once we get students' results on results day! So, currently I would not to place too much emphasis on what is up on our website right now.

Good luck for results day,
Best,

Hi Sophie. That didn’t really answer the OPs question (and didn’t offer any new information on top of the 2 earlier replies).
There’s a risk that by responding late to questions only to add links to your website that you give people the impression that Exeter are desperate for students this year. That might not be the message you’re trying to give?
For the record - universities get results BEFORE results day not on it. Most universities will update their listings ON UCAS on Tuesday/Wednesday prior to results - and continually across July, August and September.

I think there might have been some misunderstanding of what our Student Rep was articulating so I hope I can provide some useful clarity to help with your research wherever you are looking. Just to confirm, at the University of Exeter we will update our Clearing vacancy list on results days (15th August) based upon the results we receive a few days before. This is not the evening before like has been suggested by others in this thread (which some other unis may well do). This is likely to look quite different to what is currently advertised as by this time we will have student's results and know where we have spaces. We will not know for certain until closer to the time but could be quite different to what is currently advertised so we would not want anyone considering Clearing to think that all these programmes are 100% going to be available on A Level results day.

Each university is different in how clearing works for them. Some may advertise their results day Clearing places pre-results day, others like us choose not to due to the UCAS embargo. Some universities take Clearing applications over the phone, others like us will only accept through webforms. Each will have differing timescales for how quickly you need to accept a Clearing offer. So there can be a lot to navigate. It is definitely good to start your research early to see what options might be available. I would say it is also really worthwhile finding out any information you can about how you can apply if there are any universities and/or courses you know you will 100% be keen to apply for on the day if they have spaces. If you cannot find this on their website call their Admissions departments who I am sure will be able to provide more information so you are prepped as best you can. You might also benefit from researching potential Accommodation options as this is often the next thing that crops up once a place is secured through Clearing.

It is also worth noting that to accept a Clearing offer you will need to use the self release function in UCAS to formally enter Clearing - but don't rush to release your firm/insurance choice unless you are fully set on it as once you do this (depending on the uni perhaps) you won't be able to get the offer back. I am sure you will do a lot of thinking between now and then, but I guess despite the fact Clearing is very fast paced, don't be tempted to make any quick, irreversible decisions. You should usually get a little bit of time (hours not days!) to think things through, so use the time you do have to make sure you make the right decision for you.

I hope this is useful - wishing you the best of luck and I hop you end up loving wherever you end up in September.
