I did! Why do you ask?

Yes, he cancelled loads and we only had a couple lessons. think lots of the reasons were fake
Is he an Approved/Potential Driving instructor? If not then he's breaking the law by offering lessons for payment.

He sent a photo to prove his car was in the garage in June, and then sent the same identical photo in September, probably forgetting I'd seen it before. That's when I knew he was ********ting. After cancelling 22 lessons...

I don’t know TBF. He never even showed up which means I never got under the hands of his wheels.

I would move to a different instructor then. You're paying for a service and if you're not happy with it, then move to a different one.

I had him recently.
I paid for a block of 10 lessons for £320 .
First lesson he cut short to an hour after saying it would be 2 hours.

He then cancelled 7 times in a row after my first lesson with various different reasons like a puncture, smashed window, illness etc.

When asking him for a refund he left me on read and didn't reply.

He worked for AB driving school when I met him but he left and apparently owes them a lot of money too.

I had been taking lessons with Trevor, but he became increasingly unreliable. He frequently canceled at the last minute, rescheduled multiple times, and even failed to show up without warning. The list of excuses include
Taking his daughter to a GP appointment
His daughter’s dance competition
An oil leak
A garage break-in
A power outage that “reset his alarm”
Twice claiming to have gastroenteritis This made my learning process incredibly frustrating.

When I eventually decided to stop lessons and requested a refund for the outstanding balance, he gave me endless excuses. First, he claimed he was having issues and needed to adjust his account and couldn’t pay me back right away. Then, he said his laptop needed repairs and that he needed more time. On other occasions, he promised to send the money “by the end of the week,” but nothing ever materialized.

It has now been two weeks since I first asked for my refund, and he is completely ignoring my messages. At this point, I feel like I have no choice but to escalate the matter.

Please escalate the matter if you can!! I can't help but feel like he'e been openly scamming learners for months, probably years.

I ditched him with 2 lessons to spare and didn't even bother chasing the money because I didn't trust I'd get it back- but he does deserve hell just for how difficult he made learning to drive for us.

I’ve told him that if he doesn’t return the money he owes me by tonight, I’ll be contacting both the DVSA and the ombudsman. I’ve been chasing him for two weeks now, and all he’s done is give excuses. At this point, it feels like outright dishonesty.

I recently switched and I’ve learned so much in the 90minutes with my new instructor than the 6 hours that I’ve had with Trevor Binns.

I’d strongly encourage any other students who’ve had similar issues with him to also contact the DVSA and report this malpractice. The more of us who speak up, the more likely action will be taken. Enough is enough.

You’ve had the same experience as me , so I strongly advise you to contact the DVSA and the ombudsmen immediately to report him. This is clearly a pattern, not just a one-off issue. I’ve already told him that if he doesn’t return my money by tonight, I’ll be reporting him myself.

I also think you should seriously consider taking legal action if he refuses to pay you back. The more formal complaints he receives, the more likely it is that something will be done. We can’t allow him to continue taking advantage of students like this.

Perhaps even look into small claims court

Same with me. I also asked him for a refund and his excuse was he needed to talk to his accountant so he didn't have to pay tax on my refund.

He ignored me asking the first few times and only replied when I threatened to report him to the DVSA

I’m really sorry to hear that. He is absolutely lying about his accountant—he told me his laptop needed repairing, and since then, it’s been nothing but excuse after excuse. Please contact the DVSA! Enough is enough—don’t let him get away with this any longer.

How the hell can he afford an accountant when he can’t even afford to give us our money back? It’s obvious—he’s scamming us! The audacity makes me sick. Please, I beg you, report him. He’s only ruining his own reputation, and the more people who take action, the less chance he’ll have to continue ripping off other students.

We worked too damn hard for this money—he does not deserve to walk away with it!

Also now im thinking about it, it doesnt make sense because he told me to send the money to his personal account rather than a business one so how would he be paying tax on that?

I contacted Citizens Advice as I wasn’t sure which ombudsman sector to approach, and they advised me to file a small claim in court. I would also recommend informing the DVSA about Trevor, detailing the entire situation—including his repeated excuses and false claims about an accountant and taxes when asked for refunds. The more reports against him, the harder it will be for him to continue scamming students.

Exactly! claiming tax through a personal account is far more difficult, requiring precise record-keeping. Unfortunately, Trevor lacks those skills just as he lacked any consistency or professionalism in delivering lessons. Yet he assumes we’re naïve enough to believe the excuses he throws out without question. Hopefully, karma catches up with him sooner rather than later.
