Muslim Brothers and Sisters

Salaam Brothers and Sisters,

I hope you are well and in the best of health sending my duas to the Muslim ummah and community. Just wanted your advice please. How much would you say is a reasonable amount to pay in Mahr (Dowry) please. I am funding for my own Nikkah for example venue arrangement, dining and catering. To therefore get married to the girl I want to get married to but I want to know what’s a reasonable amount to give.

Thank you

Wa’alaykum Salam. Well, within my own knowledge, I think you have to pay the price offered by your future wife. There’s not a “reasonable amount”. The man is obliged to pay what was offered. Read Suratul Nis’aa and you’ll get a better understanding.
Jazakallah Khairan.

Depends on your means, I would assume you would discuss with the bride's guardian as well to ensure both sides are on the same page, in terms of whether your future wife would be happy in the environment you can provide for her

May Allah make your journey easy InshaAllah when attempting to complete half your deen

Is there a way you can actually learn to love each other without having to basically buy her love? I understand if this is a traditional family or religious things but overall you might be happier without having to buy someone's love?

Thanks no it’s just a traditional and cultural thing and probably a religious thing too we give a sum of money to our wife to be but it’s never forgotten that even after marriage the money I make is all hers and for the family we have. I just want her to be happy. I could not be more appreciative and thankful for them in my life.
