Current y10s, got any advice for GCSE revision?

Hi!

I'm going into year 10 from September 5th. Do any year 10s or 11s have advice on how to study for GCSEs?

I can't figure out which revision methods works best for me.

I reccomend - especially during the exams - to go to your public library or a local cafe to revise. This really helped me because when revising at home I would often lose focus because I got cabin fever and I was bored and not taking the task of revision seriously, but if you get out of the house, you get fresh air and the idea that you are "going somewhere" makes you more motivated to do revision tasks, plus you set yourself a bit more of a subconscious timetable as you have a curfew- so you HAVE to get stuff done. Plus walking somewhere is good exercise and that can make you feel more awake to revise.

Also if you are taking any coursework subjects then do as much of it as you can in year 10!!

I also found it useful to do practice papers WITH a textbook, as you aren't going to know everything at first, and having the information in front of you will help you to learn how to answer questions (Exam technique) and you will learn as you practice.
Then, try exam papers with the textbook next to you but closed, go through the paper using own knowledge but if you get stuck on something then use the textbook as you can fill in your gaps. I did this all the way until the actual exams and my mocks ranged from 5-9, so I would say that this has worked relatively well for me.

of course if you don't like textbooks then I'm sure that any other revision tool could be substituted, like flash cards or YouTube videos, If you still aren't sure which one you like best then id say try answering questions with each revision tool in front of you.

Also remember that just making notes on its own won't improve your grades drastically, you will need to put them into practice. This could range from practicing papers to just planning answers to questions (in English or history for example)

You may also want to start to think about potential a levels or college courses that look more appealing to you, so you can prioritise the GCSEs you need for them.

Thank you so much! Those revision methods sound great. I'll start revising this summer but not too much. I'm taking Spanish, French, Geography, Further Maths, English, Maths (top set) and Triple Science.

I can't figure out which revision methods works best for me.

look on ebay for notes! There are quite a lot of character analyses for Macbeth + J&H and a lot of poetry anthologies available! I found these a lot more easier to use than textbooks x

You need to memorise this content , it is the best thing you can do right now and then do past paper questions and mark them closer to the exams so you don't run out of them.

I'm selling a lot of my notes (bio, chem, Macbeth, J&H, essay examples) on my ebay yadi2156 and they really helped me if you're interested 🙂 GOODLUCK!
