Resits?

Has anyone failed their final A2 alevel exams but was able to resit and get good grades?
Maybe even As? Or maybe know some success stories of such?

If yes, do you have any stories of how that was achieved or any advice for people in the same position?

(for reference, I'm a year 13 student who struggled with undiagnosed adhd which has impacted my performance in exams, but I'm preparing for whatever the outcome on results day may be and l'm looking for guidance in that sense).

ps; pls be nice :,)

Hiya 🙂

I failed my AS year for many reasons, I disliked my subjects (RE, Finance & English Language), I wasn't happy, my mental health was bad. I knew about halfway through Y12 that I was going to fail, so I kinda just let it happen - I think I got EEC. Initially, I was going to drop out, but my mum convinced me to give it another go. My new A Levels were English Literature, English Language & Philosophy. AS year I got AAC, and then in A Levels I got BBC, there was a drop in my grades, not sure why, but I passed & that was honestly all that mattered to me.

Fast forward a few years later, I've just graduated in BA Chinese & have my ceremony coming up in September and have two masters offers.

Don't let your A Level grades define you! I performed so much better at uni, school just didn't work for me, I hated the environment & really hate the fact that ONE exam defines your future. I could talk about this for days, but on the day anxiety, sickness, lack of sleep, all contribute to your performance - and if you're not feeling 100% on the day, chances are it'll affect your performance, which will affect your grades. However, at uni you have a mixture of exams, essays, projects, it's a lot more relaxed in a way (in my opinion, others may disagree).

I had friends at Sixth Form who also resat & went to top Russel Groups! It feels like a big deal when it's happening, but trust me it's not, it'll be a distant memory in a few years time 🙂
