access course at 18

i've managed to find an access course that will let me do science despite being 18, with that being said, is this an issue for unis? i know manchester sometimes doesn't allow access courses unless you've been out of education for a certain amount of time but a lot of unis don't have that, but is it an issue i did them under 19? does anyone have any experience with this? i'm thinking of optometry. thanks

Also, do you know how long access courses usually take? Because if it’s one year then I’d be completing it after the cycle to apply for university as I turn 19 this November

i believe they only take one year !! i’m unfortunately turning 19 in november too which is after when you can join so i will just have to take a gap year and apply next year

Will you still be doing the access course then? Or just reapplying with the grades you have now?

I think I found a different route into optometry. I emailed city university just to make sure it’s all good. You’d basically have to get a certificate of higher education in biomedical science, which takes a year. You can then apply to optom, provided you get 60% or above in your modules.
They said they would consider this as entry to the course!

You can do it at university of Roehampton. Or you can do it online, up to you!
I’m personally doing it at university of Roehampton, it’s treated as a normal undergrad foundation year and you would be able to get student funding for it. I went through clearing, I’m sure they still have lots of spaces!
