expensive laptop for lectures or just one for note taking?(mechanical engineering)

i’m starting in september and doing a mechanical engineering course and i will bring my desktop to run the engineering programs, i want to know whether it’s still good to have a laptop that can run these programs i can take into lectures, or will i be able to bring something like an ipad or cheaper laptop that will only be used for note taking

I currently study Mechanical Engineering and have just finished my second year. It's up to you! For me I brought a tablet to take notes as I found it easier and less heavy, but many others in my course would bring laptops instead which is also a great way to take notes too, and be able to run the programmes as well. If you have both you can always try and see which one you prefer to use! As well as this, when you start and if you are told when you will be using engineering programmes then you could always bring your laptop with you so you can run it! I would advise picking whichever one you will feel will be more comfortable and efficient to use!
