I might get an offer to study at Essex University, but I live in London (SE). Does anyone know what are the best options to get to Essex without spending too much time and money? Thanks

Hey! 👋👋
Its great to hear that you are looking to study with us 🤗 I have taken some time to sum up some of the key ways to travel Essex University for both our Colchester and Southend campuses:
⭐Travelling to our Colchester Campus: Train
If you are looking to travel to us by train, we are lucky to have 3 train stations in the local area. The train journey from Liverpool Street takes just under an hour and you can walk or bus from the station to us. Our nearest station is Hythe (Essex) which is a 20-minute walk from campus.
Greater Anglia provides frequent trains from London Liverpool Street to Colchester (also known as Colchester North).
When getting the train, I would always recommend having a rail-card which normally cost a one-off yearly payment of £30, but this really helps to bring down the cost of train tickets and will save you lots of money in the long run.
Bus
First Bus provide most bus services in and around Colchester and the University. Tickets can be bought online or via their app as well as contactless payment on the bus itself.
The bus routes that are frequent from the train stations and central town are the:
· 81 · 87 · 74
Car Our postcode is CO4 3SQ (for SatNav purposes use CO7 9HT which will take you to the main Wivenhoe entrance.)
When you arrive in Colchester, follow road signs to the University (off the A133) to access to our main visitor car parks, which is via the B1028, Colchester Road.
We have lots of car parks at Essex, and if you are a student living off campus you can buy a parking permit – Parking for students.
There are frequent trains from London to Southend, with journey times of 45 minutes to one hour: London Liverpool Street to Southend Victoria (0.3 miles from our campus) - operated by Abellio Greater Anglia London Fenchurch Street to Southend Central (0.2 miles from our campus) - operated by c2c
Both London Liverpool Street and Fenchurch Street have underground and bus services available for connections with Stansted, Gatwick and Heathrow Airport.
C2C train travel app: The c2c travel app supports contact-free travel. You can purchase tickets via the app and then load tickets directly to your smartcard. Please be aware that c2c are currently running a reduced timetable. Find out how to stay safe while travelling.
Bus
National Express operate services to Southend Bus Station from all over the UK. As the campus is located in the city centre, most local buses stop nearby. Buses are run by Arrivabus and tickets can be bought online or via their app. Take advantage of their Student Saver tickets, available to anyone in full-time education.
Car
Southend is just half an hour from the M25 via the A13 or A127. For sat navs, postcode SS1 1LW provides the correct route directions.
There is plenty of city centre parking in public car parks. The closest car park is located underneath University Square student accommodation which accessed via College Way and is payable by phone only.
Blue badge holders with Southend on Sea issued blue badges can park for free. Badge holders with badges issued by other authorities will need to pay the appropriate car park charges, however on street parking bays remain available and free of charge to all badge holders.

Commuting by train to Colchester would take ages and be massively expensive. Its 45 mins minimum from Liverpool Street. If you drive, its again at least 40 mins from the Dartford Crossing. I live in Chelmsford (20 miles closer in) and I wouldn't commute to SE London unless it was just 1-2 days a week.
Maybe you just mean travelling for the odd day to look for accommodation etc which is a lot more practical.
