Clearing (NEED ANSWERS ASAP)

Writing this thread for answers, plus I think the questions I need answers for could help a few other students in the same boat as me.

I have an offer, however I want to go to a different university. Say for instance I meet the offer requirements, can I then call up other universities to see if I can get in there first before confirming my place?

Also, how much can I miss a target by? Say for instance, if the requirements are an AAB, it’s self explanatory that an AAC could be considered for a place offer, but what about an ABC or an AAD, what would the cut off point be?

If anyone here can help answer these questions it would be very much appreciated!

1) You can phone up other Unis once you have your results - but some will refuse to talk you if you are still holding a place somewhere else.
2) You don't need to 'confirm your place' at your original Uni.
3) "if the requirements are AAB, it’s self explanatory that an AAC could be considered for a place offer," No its isnt 'self-explanatory' at all. AAB means AAB - not one grade below. Don't make assumptions.
4) No-one has a clue what will be in Clearing on Results Day - or what grades those Unis will require - and its pointless trying to second-guess it at this stage, or think that someone actually 'knows'. We dont - even those of us who work at Universities don't know.

If a university has published clearing specific entry requirements then those requirements are what you need to meet.

If a university hasn’t published clearing specific entry requirements then it’s worth enquiring if you are within 2 grades of their standard requirements. If those 2 grades are in a single subject (like AAD for a course that normally asks for AAB) then the D needs to be in a subject that is not relevant to the degree.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense, thank you so much for the relevant information.

One of the key things with clearing is not to pin all your efforts on a single option.
Do your research, look at universities that you haven’t heard of before, look at universities you applied to with your other choices. Get MORE THAN ONE offer. Use webforms and clearing plus and the phone and enquire to a whole bunch of universities - ones you meet the requirements for easily and those that ask for higher.
There’s a reason UCAS don’t let you add a clearing choice formally until 1pm, it’s to encourage applicants to shop around
