SED at Huddersfield uni

I’ve wanted to study pharmacy at Huddersfield Uni, however ive not reached the grades required as I’m studying an access course, I did pass but they required distinctions and I got merits. Huddersfield Uni recommended foundation year for me but I also heard that doing that is extremely hard and they only accept 15 ppl to move onto the pharmacy course. I even have over a years worth of experience in the pharmacy field too. Can anyone advise me on how I can go about this? Can I still find a way to enter without doing foundation year? Thanks

How did you find it personally? Is it hard? What did you progress onto?

Personally I found it quite ok. If you keep on top of your work and don’t do things last minute you should be ok. I progressed onto optom

What percentage did you gain overall? How many people moved onto optom and pharm? Do you mind me asking what you studied at A level and what grades you got as well as I’m not that academically clever

I gained 76% overall and you need 70% overall, 70% in chemistry and 70% in maths and physics to progress onto optom and pharmacy. This year around 40-45 people progressed onto these courses and people with 68+ are placed on a waiting list. I got bcc and did bio chem and psych

What does it consist of to get 70%? Is it exam based or essay based?

I got 68% overall and was accepted onto the MPharm Course without being on the waiting list - I’d say it’s a lot like a level but way easier . Just make sure you consolidate and look over the practise sheets all the time

I’m going to start the mpharm course in September. Ur in 3-4 times a week but hardly any lectures in the day so it’s pretty chill . In the middle of the year you get loads of labs so might have to come in 5 days a week but max 2 lectures a day

What is the Maths and Physics part of the course like for SED? Is it like A level or is it more easier? Same applies for bio and chem is it A level content or would u say it’s more easier

I’ve not done a level maths but the maths part is ok in term 1 however some topics in term 2 are hard. You will be given enough material and quizzes for practice. Bio and chem is pretty much first year a level I think

That’s the thing because I’ve not done bio and chem physics since high school and I failed them with a grade 3 and just about passed maths with a 4 so I’m not even sure if I’m capable of doing the course or not

Hi, so if you get 70% you're definitely 100% guaranteed a place? Or is it like you're given whatevers left over after the A Level students have applied?

If u get 70% overall, 70% in maths/physics and chemistry you are basically guaranteed a place.
