I already knew he would serve no jail time, any average person would have. Welcome to the shithole UK where zero equality exists and the rich and wealthy get off Scot-Free.

You are mistaken, The sentence is pretty standard for the offences in question. Search the media and you will be able to find examples of similar sentences being imposed on non-celebrities.

I bet Huw got off free because he knows name of other high profile offenders at the bbc. I bet the bbc has it own Epstien style list and Huw knows name of them.
How else does he avoid prison for such a crime? That said, Starmer is releasing people convicted of sexual crimes so who knows.

Your conspiracy theory is misplaced. The sentence was pretty standard for the offences in question. A non-celebrity would have been sentenced in the same way.

A BBC article. Because that's going to be a fair account of what occurred. The BBC cannot be trusted on this matter, nor any other.
This is very much a case of making excuses for serious criminal behaviour. "steering the other guy away" is nonsense. The question has to be asked - what would you expect of a normal decent person under these circumstances? The BBC (and judge) are doing to death the idea of how high profile Edwards is, how he was such a respected member of the establishment. If person A is sharing serious and obviously illegal material with person B, the minimum expectation is that person B imediately ends that relationship and most people would expect that it is reported. Edwards did neither of those things.

If you look at other cases involving offenders who are not celebrities, you will see that the sentencing here was in the normal range for offence of this kind. There is nothing to indicate an unduly light or unduly heavy sentence.

I came across the below blog which gives a good insight in the sentencing guidelines for said offence

Quite informative
Moved to the news and current affairs forum as this isn't about applying to or studying law at university

As @Stiffy Byng said this is actually a pretty standard sentence in such cases. Someone I was unfortunate enough to know got charged 100% guilty with much the same and wasn't jailed which shocked the hell out of me and many I know at the time.

As much as it's not prison, this is also not getting off scot free in any way.

I know. That's why I correctly predicted the sentence. What was outside the norm was the Chief Magistrates comments and the lack of SHPO.

Likewise I know of two people who were both guilty of child image offences and neither spent time in prison. Pretty standard stuff for downloading pics from what I can tell.

his 'sentence' is a ******* joke, our society is doomed. how can we even let someone like him stay alive, let alone walk free
Turns out a sweet FA who could have seen that coming? Sentenced to 6 months (suspended) for being in possession of child porn. Joke.

We don't generally imprison people for possessing anything outside of firearms and distribution amounts of drugs.

The sentence was a fairly normal sentence for this type of offence.

Leaving aside the debate about whether prison has any efficacy as a measure to reduce crime or achieve other public policy objectives, if you wish for more police, more courts, and more prison spaces, you'll have to be ready to pay more tax.

This is quite interesting, I never knew that opening a message meant you had created them.

Makes you think about some of the mass WhatsApp groups where inappropriate stuff gets shared!
