Is it possible to get a clearing offer before clearing opens?

Weird question I know. But I did notice someone mention this if you contact the university directly beforehand. It sounds silly to me but wanted to make sure. Thanks

You might be able to get a verbal offer but you won't be able to accept it via UCAS before clearing opens.
P.S. It opened on the 5th of July

Hi, the uni I want to go to don’t post their requirements until the 14th, could it still be accepted via UCAS with a verbal offer as it is technically open? Thank you

Hi

Not a weird question at all.

Clearing opened on 5 July, so if you already have your level 3 results, and have maybe taken a gap year or a year off, the university will be able to make you an offer now.

If you are still waiting on your level 3 results, universities can't make you an offer until results day (Thursday 15 August 2024) so unfortunately it is a bit of a waiting game.

Most universities that go into Clearing will have a 'register your interest' form on their webpages - this is a good way to start your application and tell them some of that important information ahead of results day, such as the course you want to apply for, GCSE results etc. At Teesside anyone who completes this form gets a phone call on results morning, so it might be worth checking if the universities you are interested in applying to do this.

Where are you hoping to apply to?

Hi, thank you for the response. I’m hoping to apply to Aston and received my level 3 results last year. I’ve since taken a gap year but unfortunately I didn’t get into Aston with my initial application in January. Hoping I could maybe get in through clearing but they are yet to post the updated requirements for the course I’m interested in.

If you have not yet got your results, please DO NOT call Unis before Results Day about Clearing places.

You are just wasting everyone's time - mostly yours - and Unis get very fed up with this, and the endless 'will you still accept me if I get CCC' etc.

Find something else to do, and put your phone away.

hi, you can check the course requirements in the UCAS clearing search tool. They're supposed to publish everything there

As you already have your results, I'd maybe just drop them an email or give them a ring (there is a phone number on their website) and they might be able to give you an indication of what they are looking for and whether you could be accepted with your current qualifications.

At Teesside we also don't post our entry requirements for Clearing on the website, but we do have an some idea of what we would accept and are happy to chat to those students who already have their qualifications about their options.

Give them a call, it's worth a try 🙂

Good luck!
