Marine Biology - second degree accepted under SFE?

Hi, I'm hoping a rep from SFE can help me with a question.

I already hold a BA in Crime Studies (which I received SFE funding for), and I'm finishing up my MSc in Land and Ecological Restoration in 2025. I'm really desperate to change my career to Marine Biology, and would love to study at Hull University (possibly with a foundation year but unsure). They don't offer the course part-time, so I would need to take it full-time and re-apply for student finance.

According to the SFE website, you are unlikely to get funding for a second bachelors. However, it may be possible, if your degree falls under a list of topics. One of them is biological sciences.

Would Marine Biology be covered under biological sciences, or is this more in relation to human biology i.e. nursing/doctor degrees?

Thanks!

This would not be an exception course at Full Time level unfortunately. We would not be able to offer support.

Thanks,
Ross

Hi Cara,

Marine Biology at Full Time level wouldn't be an exception. You'd need to be studying at Part Time.

Thanks,
Ross

Ah ok!

In that case, would Marine Biology BSc (Hons) (Single Honours) at University of Chester be covered if I applied part-time? 3 years full-time, up to 7 years part-time. Marine Biology BSc (Hons) (Single Honours) | University of Chester
Hi there, if you study a part time honours degree then yes, that course would be an exception. Thanks, Jason
