TMUA

Hi,
I have to take the TMUA exam and I wanted to have some advice. There are 2 months where you can take the exam: October or January. Do you recommend for me to do my TMUA in January or October (I am not an early applicant)? Is there any advantage in doing it in January? or would it be made more difficult? Thanks again for taking the time to reading through my post.

I got no clue. Would recommend october to get it over with. I have a question tho. Seeing as TMUA is on 16th and 17th october this yr are they both gonna be the same exam or different exams??

There is no advantage to doing it in January over October with regards to the university perspective.

Advantage with January: More to prepare for it so likely to smash it.
Disadvantage: Your offers which are TMUA-dependent are likely to come a while after you apply. You're approaching your A levels so your mind will gradually shift to preparing for them as well.

Advantage with October: You get it out of the way, you may get your offers back faster.
Disadvantage: Less time to prepare for it.

If I were doing the TMUA this year, I would honestly get it over with in October. With A levels looming in the new year, the last thing you want is to distract yourself with having to prepare for an admissions test. Trust me, preparing for an admissions test while balancing A level prep is super difficult.

I had to prepare for the STEP while balancing A level prep, and trust me when I say that the STEP is quite literally 10x harder than the TMUA. It makes Further Maths look like nothing in comparison, though Further Maths is still a little bit challenging.

Additionally, if you have an EPQ or any NEAs to complete, you're going to be super strapped for time at that time so you really really want to get it over and done with. Trust me, you're gonna want to sit it in October and get it over with.

There's a reason it was always sat in October in previous years.

it depends where you're applying. cambridge requires you to do it in october, and imperial and warwick both 'strongly encourage' you do it in october. if you're not applying to these universities, then its completely up to you.

How would the universities get my TMUA results from Jan? The deadline for ucas applications is January 31st and the tmua results come out during February.

i honestly am not sure, i know that for MAT you have to enter your UCAS number. my guess is that leading up to the exam we will have to do the same for the TMUA

I think there is a form for which you must submit in order to inform Cambridge about the universities you wish to send your results to.
