Depends on how bad the malpractice is I guess. I’ve heard they can send letters out close to results day.
I don't know the answer to this. I may be wrong, my guess would be it depends where the evidence of malpractice comes from. If it's from the test papers, it may be that you won't know yet. If it's from something you were seen doing in an exam, I imagine the invigilators & school will have made you aware of this by now.

Please keep us informed and if you want more help - perhaps give us a little more detail?

I really hope this is a mistake you might have made or something you are just worried about as we build toward results day - rather than anything deliberate that you're hoping to get away with.

I forgot a few references in my bibliography in my N5 English portfolio. The reason I forgot them is because I was stupid to think that seeing as some of the info I found was on the same website for example national geographic meant I was able to just put down the reference as the link to the national geographic website. I also heard someone say that there friend got a letter a week before results day about plagiarism in there English portfolio.

SQA Malpractice Guidelines for centres states that the candidate should be informed by the centre (school) if the centre suspects that malpractice has taken place. An investigation then follows. The guidelines do not state what happens if SQA suspect that malpractice has taken place, and does not confirm whether or not the candidate or not.

Since posting my original advice, new information has been provided by another user.

Another user has anecdotally quoted an SQA marker who says that the candidate is informed by the centre when SQA identify possible malpractice.

Well, that may happen, it may not. There's no guaranteeing that you're safe at this stage. Prepare (emotionally) for the worst, hope for the best, and if you get bad news on Tuesday then come back to me in this thread with what has happened and I can help and advise you from there. :yy:

Ok thank you

From what you’ve posted it does not seem like you’ve plagiarised severely so you should be ok! I’m sure the sqa are forgiving when it comes to little errors in bibliographys especially at Nat 5 given it’s your first time doing a portfolio. At least you’ll know better for next year I suppose. Just remember what ever happens it’s not the end of the world. Be careful not to stress yourself about this. I Hope everything goes well on results day 🙂

You’re talking absolute nonsense. Stop freaking people out. They would’ve been informed by now as they conduct investigations. You have absolutely no idea how the system works. If ur from England then of course that would be the case per se but why would you even bother joining the thread?

Hello, you are correct that the candidate would have been informed if the centre had identified a concern of malpractice. The guidance does not have anything written for a procedure where SQA identify a concern of malpractice, unless I've missed it or I'm looking at a different PDF to you. Instead of asking "why would I even bother" to help others who are asking questions, perhaps you could offer the original poster some advice?

If you had common sense then it would be the same procedure for when the SQA would identify malpractice. This has come from a marker:
“SQA marker here:
If you have been caught, then the letter goes to the school first with a copy of your work and all the plagiarised sections highlighted.
The school then investigate and seeing as it will be pretty obvious and you've admitted it, a report goes back to SQA and your parents/carers are notified. Usually, we get them in for a chat to show the plagiarised sections.
Then, your exam grade will be a fail for English - I can't remember the grade code but it is the one reserved for candidates who either failed to turn up to the exam or cheated.
The SQA can also review all of your other grades and have those altered too.”

Thank you for providing information that I didn't have, that is really helpful for the OP.

I will edit my above posts when I am home.

The "if you had common sense" remark isn't needed though, we are all just offering help and support to others. Thanks again

What is the source of the quoted material?

Is there any way to verify this came from an SQA marker other than your say-so?

Erm I don’t think you’re being very helpful as you are creating unnecessary panic by spreading false information for no reason

Thank you for the feedback
Just editing my posts now :cyber:

EDIT: done

For goodness sake, they let you know in bloody advance if you are caught. How many times do I have to say this???????

You're quoting a reply from 2 days ago, well before you provided the additional information which is not in the public document. I am not fussed if you want to take out some frustrations on me but please do not direct annoyance at another user who is trying to reassure somebody.

I highly regret wasting my whole summer worrying about one minor thing lmao, soon as I saw my results I was like to myself, “What the hell was I worrying about all this time???”
Now we know that the SQA only care about plagiarism if it is done in large chunks. End of.

I got a B! I’m so happy
