Overdue assignments

Hi guys,
I’m in my first year of uni and I had a rough first year to say the least. I was an academic weapon up until the end of November last year where my mother was hospitalised then she passed away in February. During that time frame I was struggling to concentrate, ended up drinking excessively and doing everything in my power to distance my mind from the ongoings of my life.

Anyways, I ended up not submitting a lot of assignments. I explained my situation to the learning support staff and they were very understanding. They stated that I would be allowed to catch up with my assignments during the resit period (August) and my marks would be uncapped. However, I have only recently started doing better and I have only recently regained my ability to focus. I have 6 assignments due in the next week and I am slightly overwhelmed. I know I am capable of doing it but I just need advice on how to make this workload more manageable. Please feel free to give me some tips. Thank you <3

Micromanage by splitting the assignments into bits and start doing em all little by little each day. Also, prioritise any that are due earlier than the ones due later unless, they are all due on the same day.

Also, don't panic too much. Being your first year it's more a year for you to get into the university study-learn life, and if any other issues just ask the university for support.

Hi there, I am sorry for your loss and what you had to go through- it's completely understandable that it has affected your studies and it's really good that you reached out to the learning support staff; it shows a lot of strength and self-awareness. Having six assignments due in a week is indeed overwhelming, but I believe you can manage it if you strategically plan it. Try prioritising your tasks by deadline, create a daily schedule, and break assignments into smaller tasks. Don't forget to take regular breaks to avoid burnout, and don't hesitate to ask for help from professors or peers if needed. Make sure to take care of your physical health too, as it impacts your focus and productivity. Also, remember that your goal is to submit and pass, so don't spend too much time trying to perfect each assignment. Once you start working, it will feel less overwhelming and more manageable.
Wishing you all the best!
Take care,
