Low stress/effort jobs for autistic adults

i’m currently taking a year out from uni after completing my second year.

im burnt out and overwhelmed with absolutely everything - especially just the usual tasks like making food and showering.

i have adhd and autism and the idea of having to get a job after uni is the scariest thing ever to me. it makes me feel sick to think about.

i’m a writer and an editor for one of my uni’s literary magazines.

with all that in mind does anyone have any suggestions for low stress jobs i can look into post uni ?

thankyou
Cleaning - low levels of dealing with people, systematic, you can usually wear headphones while working, the hours are varied (evening, weekends and early morning shifts are usually an option so you can find work to suit your normal sleep schedule) and the pay is pretty good.
Hiya Anon #1,

This very much depends on the kinds of traits and preferences you have and what you'd like for yourself. But please don't be worried, there are so many options out there for neurodiverse people.

My best friend at uni is autistic and she decided to be a teaching assistant at a primary school. I've also seen autistic people go onto do environmental conservation work, tour guiding, working in banks and computer analytics if this is your thing. If its not, then working with animals is known to be therapeutic, such as zoos, petting farms or wildlife parks. Working in a library is also a quiet environment which might help your overwhelm.

Because you're a creative person and clearly have a talent for writing, have you considered copywriting (loads of companies need these), journalism/critique, or marketing? Just because you experience overwhelm and stress does not mean you should settle for a job which is beneath your skills. There are dozens of very well paid and fulfilling jobs which don't put you under high levels of stress.

Don't worry - just give yourself time to explore your options. I really hope this helps, best of luck
