Fast track detective course

Hi if I am successful with my application to join the fast track detective course would I train alongside the regular police constables.

Depends on the force and the exact programme.

In Met police, it's possible you wouldn't. Training school you'd be with other TDCs, then you'd have "street duties" where you have to complete a certin number of tasks on borough policing - it only lasts a few weeks, and you may or may not be with other uniformed PC students - it just depends on how the classes / intakes have worked for that particular borough. The instructors will definitely be uniformed officers.

For counties, almost certainly. After training school, in Beds/Cambs/Herts and as far as I know also in Essex and Kent, you do about 3 months on a district uniformed response / intervention team working 1-on-1 with a uniformed tutor constable and you would effectively be part of that team for that time.

After these bits, you go on to whatever detective thing you're doing - in Met it might be Safeguarding or CID. In counties, it will probably be the Local Investigations Unit.
