Student accommodation cancellation

I wanted to know if I can cancel my student accommodation room in Glasgow, since I have only paid a deposit and have not given any ID or documents and have not paid any term payments. The cooling period of 72 hours is over. I’m not worried about the deposit amount which was around 130£. I just want to know if I can withdraw my application.
The answer depends on the terms of any agreement which you made with the accommodation provider whether in writing or otherwise. Any such agreement will be governed by the law of Scotland.

Hi there,
Have you accepted your tenancy agreement? If so, and if the cooling off period has passed, then you will be liable for the rent for the duration of the tenancy - even if you have yet to make a payment. My advice would be to contact your accommodation provider and let them know, they should be able to guide you on the next steps which more than likely will be asking you to find a replacement tenant to takeover your tenancy (unless they have a waiting list).

Hello @nagdev
Whether you can cancel your accommodation will largely depend on the terms and conditions of the contract you agreed to when you paid the deposit. I think it would be a great idea for you to take a look at your contracts or any terms and conditions you received, especially what it says about cancellation after the cooling-off period. And contact your accommodation team to let them know you've decided to cancel your accommodation. They might be able to help you with some procedures, which is great! However, if they refuse to cancel or insist on further payments, you might seek help from the student union, a legal advisor, or a tenants' rights organization.

Hope this helps and good luck with everything~
