ESAT Specimen Test Question 11

Can someone help explain this question to me. The answer is 49%

Two variables are connected by the relation:

P proportional to 1 over Q squared

Q is increased by 40%.

What is the percentage change in P to the nearest whole number?
P = k / (Q12)
If Q increases by 40%, Q2 = 1.4Q1
P = k / Q22 = k / (1.4Q1)2.
P = k / 1.96Q12
0.51P = k / Q12
So, P has changed to 0.51P, which is equivalent to a 49% change.

Hey everyone! I'm currently a second-year Physical Natural Sciences student at Cambridge (soon to be third-year), and I've put together an ESAT practice paper that I'm offering for sale. I've carefully crafted this paper, with most of the questions being original or adapted from a variety of sources like SAT papers and random national olympiad papers. I’ve also included a handful questions from past NSAA/ENGAA papers to make sure there's a good mix.

Just a heads up, the paper doesn’t have a biology section since I didn’t study Biology at A Level, so I didn’t feel comfortable making questions for that part.

The papers stylisation looks just like the NSAA (but with the new ESAT test format), and it comes with an answer sheet and detailed handwritten solutions. I initially made it for another company, but we had a disagreement about payment, so I decided to look for other options!

Since there aren’t any ESAT past papers available right now, I think there’s a huge opportunity here. I reckon there are over 10,000 students looking for ESAT-style practice papers, but finding none. I’m offering this paper at a fair price considering the demand, so if you're interested or have any questions, feel free to reach out!
