The Student Room Group

Want to create a community for uni students who enjoy creative hobbies- want 2 join?

Wanted to create a space where uni students who enjoy painting, crocheting, knitting, drawing etc can talk about uni life alongside their creative passions. Hoping it’s a space to reinforce the fact that the best uni experiences are the ones where you were authentically you throughout.

Discussions could include general uni stuff, work in progresses, small business ideas, keeping uni plants alive, shopping for room stuff, joining societies.

What are peoples thoughts/ would anyone be interested?

Hiya!

This sounds great, and something I would love to engage with 🥰

Whilst being at university, I have been slowly teaching myself how to crochet. I have tried reading books on the beginner steps but sometimes I find these too difficult to follow so I have found Youtube or even TikTok tutorials incredibly useful. One of the crochet projects I am most proud of is a pumpkin Granny Square - and I am hoping to do some more and possibly in the future fasten these together to create a Tote Bag perhaps? I love endlessly scrolling on Pinterest and TikTok and looking at so many creative crochet projects and feeling inspired. I would love to know how to knit too, but I think I need to have more practice, and confidence in crochet before I try anything else

I have also fell back in love with colouring aha - it's the inner child in me 🤣. There is just something about colouring in, listening to music or watching some background TV that I find so comforting - I also love to buy colouring books that just match my aesthetic and / or are based on my favourite TV series. Just recently, I bought a Buffy the Vampire Slayer colouring book and it's just so pretty I can't bring myself to start it yet 🤣 does anyone else have this problem? As I am writing this Aldi currently have some Disney colouring books in store and these are also very pretty and a great deal price wise!

At De Montfort University, we have Well-being Wednesdays where every week a different activity is planned to help students with their well-being and often these activities are quite art and craft based, which I love 🥰. Some of the activites that I have attended are pumpkin painting, bauble painting, bracelet making and yoga etc. I find these to be great pick me ups, a time to socialise and honestly just great fun - not all university activities have to be clubbing and drinking etc

I also love plants, I find that they can be a great way to decorate your accommodation and bring some life! However my studio accommodation can get quite hot and I am not there 24/7 so I have had a few plants die on me but a great alternative is Lego Flowers. I have been quite fortunate to been gifted some lovely Lego Flowers such as the Roses, and the Orchid - These make a great addition to my room and obviously are no maintenance

Do you have any current hobbies, like you mentioned above? I will look forward to your response and hopefully a few more from others 😀
