Retaking the Year as a Vet Student

Hi everyone!

I just finished my first year of my veterinary medicine course at Surrey and basically… I failed most of my exams. I could resit in the late summer resit period but I chose to resit the year because I have had such a difficult year being a mature student and balancing the struggles of life and student life… I felt like I needed some time to learn the foundations again so I don’t struggle in the future years when it gets harder.
I have also changed my lifestyle which hopefully will help! I am excited to retake the year as I know in my heart it’s the right thing to do but I was just wondering if anyone has retaken the year in veterinary medicine and whether this is a normal occurrence? For anyone who has retaken the year or know people who have retaken the year, has anyone got any advice that could help me ensure I pass my exams but also look after myself mentally and physically?
