Art Psychotherapy

Hi,

I'm thinking of applying to Goldsmiths or Roehampton for their MA Arts Therapy course.

Any thoughts on which one would be the best option?
As a recent graduate of BSc Counselling Psychology at Roehampton, I did really envy the postgrad MA students because they always looked like they were having an incredible experience. Though I haven't personally got experience with MA Art Therapy, I do know some of the lecturers who teach that course and I think that all of them, as they are therapists themselves, bring the utmost professionalism and kindness to the programme that will make you feel incredibly welcome.

The only thing I would note is that Roehampton seems to be incredibly high in the ratio of women to men - as a man I was often the only male student in a large class! If gender diversity is something you seek perhaps Goldsmiths would be better? You will find at Roehampton that on a postgrad course you're very likely to have a class of only female or non-binary classmates. Not really sure why that is.

I also really recommend Roehampton on the fact that its a beautiful campus, with a good reputation for counselling psychology and a relatively decent ratio of student to teacher on postgrad courses.

Hi @Areej Abdi ,

We are happy to hear you are thinking about Roehampton for your postgrad studies!

If you choose to study full time for two years, you can expect teaching to be scheduled on no more than three days a week, we want you to make the most of our beautiful campus but we also understand you will have other commitments that you need to balance alongside studying.

A bit about the course, graduates are able to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Career wise, our previous students have gone on to work as art therapists in healthcare, education, adult mental health and the third sector. Your learning will be split between supervised clinical placements and taught days on campus.

I am happy to answer any other questions you might have!

Hi Katie,

Thank you for your message.

I'm an alumni of Roehampton so very much interested in the course. What is the time commitment for the part time course? I have also contacted them about the 1 year Foundation in Art Therapy - I haven't heard back from them yet.

Thank you
Areej

Hi Areej,

The time commitment for the part time course is 3 years. Looking at the current timetabling, students are only in 1 day a week.

When did you contact Roehampton about the foundation course?
