How have you done in the past (imc, ...) and how are you doing on the past smc papers?

IMC - got gold and kangaroo qualification but never got through to an olympiad
Been doing fairly well if I did it now I'd likely get 17-18/25

tbh, if you got into the intermediate kangaroo it shouldnt be that hard to do roughly the first twenty questions pretty much as you seem to be saying. Are you trying to do better (bmo?) or ...?

A few things, but doing past papers is the usual way to practice

In the extended solutions there are supplementary questions for ones you couldnt do/get wrong. If you want to improve and have a probelm with a question, its worth going through the supplementary ones.

Theres the drfrost slides/worksheets and online smc questions in the enrichment section at https://www.drfrost.org/downloadables.php. If you want to improve in a particular area such as geometry, its worth going through those slides.

Theres frequently a few ways a problem can be solved/validated, and this is worth practicing.

But if you get stuck on a problem/model solution, just post here if you want a hint/advice.

The "solutions and investigations" at
https://ukmt.org.uk/competition-papers
For the later questions there are a few supplementary questions/investigations at the end of each model solution.

Also, if youve done a fair few of the past smc papers and want some other related questions (a blend of challenge/simple bmo questions), theres the mentoring sheets which you could work through. However, theyre not necessary and working thoroughly through the past papers is generally enough.
