A level

Hello,
I want to do Chemical Engineering and currently do 4 A-Levels (Maths, Further Maths, Chem, and Phys), but I want to drop either Further Maths or Physics since you need an A* for Maths and Chem for Imperial and the workload is getting quite big at Year 12 already. So, which one should I drop or take AS Further Maths instead?

Which subject do you prefer? Which are you doing better at? Do any of your other uni options require physics (or FM)?
The suggestion of taking AS Fm is a good one if you can arrange this and think it will take the pressure off a little

Looks like dropping FM would make the most sense :
Chemical Engineering MEng, BEng | University of Leeds = Maths and either Chemistry or Physics.
Chemical Engineering BEng - University of Birmingham = Maths and either Chemistry or Physics.
Undergraduate degrees | Chemical Engineering | Loughborough University (lboro.ac.uk) = Maths and at least one from Chemistry or Physics.
Chemical engineering courses (bath.ac.uk) = Chemistry and Mathematics.

Hi!

I would advise that if you were looking to drop one, think about which one you are most likely to enjoy and get good grades in, especially if the workload is getting big in year 12, and it's good that you noticed that now so you can make some amendments and do the best that you possibly can! If you are really enjoying Further Maths then maybe taking it at AS would be good instead of dropping it completely. And, the same goes for the Physics.

Hope this helps!

Kind Regards,

In my opinion, I prefer Phys since I get better grades but I thought that Further Maths would give me a better chance of getting into Imperial. AS Further Maths seems alright but I think it might just be best to drop it fully? Can you let me know please?

Thank you

There’s nothing on their website which says that further maths is preferred to physics so if you think you can get the A in physics and you enjoy it more than you do further maths then go ahead and do physics. Maybe send an email to the admissions team at imperial to ask them this?

Hello
I have emailed the and they have gave me a response saying how they both viewed equally and is my choice whether to keep both or drop one. I just heard that Imperial tend to look for students doing further maths so I got a bit scared
Thank you!
