Cambridge colleges for law

I’m going to apply for Law at Cambridge and wanted some advice about colleges. I wanna go to Sidney Sussex college or Magdalene. I made this decision because Sidney Sussex is not that far away from the centre and has a very high acceptance rate for law (not too many people apply and of those that apply 25-30% get an offer) compare to other colleges. I did the same with Magdalene. Is this a good idea for finding the college I want to apply for or should I base my college application on something else

I'm a student at Sidney Sussex (doing Maths not Law) and I agree it's worth applying to Sidney, but only because it's a great college and I'd recommend it highly. Generally, going by acceptance rates is considered unwise due to the pooling system. The university are well-aware of attempts to 'game the system' so I would advise choosing a college based on what you actually like about the college. That being said, Sidney is a great college so I would recommend it either way.

Thanks so much for your response. What is pooling ?

The 'pool' system refers to the system by which colleges even out their applicants so that applying to any one particular college won't affect your likelihood of getting accepted into the university as a whole. For example, say one college gets loads of strong applicants whereas another one gets fewer strong applicants, then the second college may take students who originally applied to the other one. (It's a university-wide thing, not just between two colleges, but that's the gist).

There are two pools, the 'winter pool' which occurs after interviews but before offers, so it will be realised as getting an offer from a different college; and the summer pool, which occurs around the time of results day, so if you miss your offer (say you get AAA when you need A*AA) then another college may choose to accept you.

Many Cambridge students are pooled and almost all love their college in the end.
