Dental school last minute

So I’ve wanted to study medicine for 2 years now and I have done some work experience and volunteering.

But… now I am kinda considering studying dentistry but I’m not sure if I’m too late as I have to apply next year.

I volunteer as a ward helper at the local hospital.

Schools medical society.

Medic mentor year 11 rep for VMS

volunteered at afterschool club

Piano

Sign language

And lots of online MOOCS

Attending medical lectures

School newspaper

I’m doing GP work experience in a few days.

I’m not sure if I can relate any of these to a dental school application. I’m not sure if volunteering at a hospital is good for dentistry?

If you don’t mind me asking, why sudden change to dentistry?

I’m not sure really I did GP work experience yesteay and it was really good and insightful.

I’m thinking I may have just been overwhelmed after my first volunteering shift at the hospital 😅

I’m starting to lean back to medicine but wanna keep options open just in case

Realistically you'd need to do at least some dental related work experience/ shadowing. This would definitely help you to decide whether dentistry is really for you; or whether, as you said, you're just overwhelmed. Maybe if you're still not too sure on medicine, but you've liked the work experience so far, you could see if you're able get work experience/shadowing in different specialities? Or try asking the medical professionals you're doing your work experience with, specific questions about their job/work life balance e.t.c to know if it's genuinely something you'd enjoy.

Also yes, you can relate the things that you've done to a dental application, volunteering as a ward helper at a hospital is totally fine! As long as you talk about the skills you've developed and how these will help you in a career in dentistry then it's okay.
