A level

Hi,I moved from another country last year and started yr 10 with only one month left of yr 10 so basically skipped yr 10. I was still getting used to a different curriculum so I struggled with math a little but got good grades in science, I really want to study psychology, chemistry and biology at A level because I want to study biomedical science at uni. Unfortunately for my math gcse i might be looking at a grade 5,I just wanted to ask if it's possible to study chemistry with a grade 5 in math, but with 88 in science? If not I need advice on what to do or another way to study a level chemistry, please I really need advice

Hi! Whether you are able to study a levels in Chem, Bio and Psych with a grade 5 in Maths really depends on which sixth form you are hoping to apply to as all sixth forms set their own requirements for different subjects. If you haven’t already, take a look at some of the sixth forms in your area and look at what grades they have as entry requirements for your chosen courses. I hope that makes sense and I’d be happy to help further if you need it! Have a great day

That depends on the 6th form or college you are wanting to go to. Check their entry requirements to see what they say. Usually for a particular subject at A-level they require a certain grade in that subject at GCSE. But just double check their requirements.
Depends on sixth form and university (to certain extent - top unis prolly want higher grades, but most lower unis dont have requirements or 4-6s)
To improve, you can use corbett maths and other websites to access exam questions, worked solutions and higher-grade questions

Thanks ,I have already checked the entry requirements and for most sixth forms its grade 6 or 7,but I don't think I got that in my exams, maybe a 5. But ik I can study cgrm even with just a 5,is there maybe another way?
If the sixth forms you’d be applying to require a 6 or a 7 and you think you will achieve a 5 there are two ideas I have for getting into sixth form:

Work really really hard on your maths to achieve a higher grade

Discuss with the sixth forms when you apply, mention your extenuating circumstances and ask if it would be possible to study your chosen courses with a 5 in Maths

If none of your local sixth forms will allow you to take a level chemistry assuming you do not meet the requirement for that school then you could perhaps study your a levels as a private candidate (not attend sixth form) which isnt a very good option as you would have to hire a tutor or teach yourself all the course material.
The thing is the requirements for entry to courses are there to make sure you can do the level of work expected at that level, so the maths skills for chemistry are at a grade 6 or above if the entry requirement is a 6.
Another idea, do any local sixth forms or colleges offer applied science? This would allow you to continue science but the entry requirements are typically lower. However you will have to research whether this course would allow you to do uni courses which you’re interested in in the future.
As I dont know what area you are looking for courses in Im pretty stretched on what I can tell you about your options. If you're comfortable sharing your city or town, I could provide more tailored advice. But if you'd rather not, that's completely fine too.
Best of luck and happy to help or clarify anything else if you need it, have a great day

Thanks alot for the advice I'll try that
I live in London btw
But I think by the time you see this I would have probably gotten my results already
And abt the private learning, I don't think I can afford that, and as for math,I have worked really really hard on it but the problem is i come from a different country so it isn't easy
Thanks again for the advice 🤍

No problem! I would say the best idea is if you dont get the result you want on Thursday (best of luck by the way!) then email some local sixth forms and ask if they will allow you to study there despite your grades, explaining your circumstances and emphasising your dedication

Here are some websites I'd recommend for GCSE maths:

mathsgenie

corbettmaths

mathsupgrade

Best of luck!
It depends. If you have a high grade in physics or another math based subject, your sixth form might be lenient and let you study chemistry. I got a 6 in maths and was allowed to do A-level chemistry. A lot of people in my school were placed on trial periods which meant if they scored above 60% in their first exam, they could stay on that A level subject. You could ask to do that if it’s possible.
