Maintenance Loans for Full time Course but Part-Time Attendance.

Hello, I might possibly be resitting the modules I failed this year for next year but only those modules. I will still be classed as being on a Full-Time course but it will be Part-Time Attendance for those specific modules.

I was wondering if this would affect WHEN I get my maintenence loans as I'm not sure if I'll be attending anything for the first semester as the modules I failed were in second and third semester and I have rent to pay in September for my accommodation so I need the loan in September. I was told that there could be teaching for that module in first semester but if there wasn't, would I still get my normal maintenence loan amount and ON THE 23rd September like it says now?

I only ask because I need to pay rent on the 23rd September and I need the loan for that and the living costs while I'm there.

Hi there, you'd remain on a full time application unless you are changing permanently to a part time degree. Are you going to be studying for the full year for this repeat? If not, we need the university to send us a 'change of circumstance' confirming the study dates so we can pro rata your maintenance loan based on the dates. This does take 25 working days as an estimated timescale so if this is all done and time and they release your payments in time then you'd be paid around the date above. Thanks, Jason

Hi,

I'm resubmitting modules now but if they are failed then I will have to resit those modules specifically next year part-time, but I will still be classed as a full time student. I might get an option to just resit the whole year as well but i was just asking about the part time study on my full time course.

The modules I would be repeating would happen in semester 2 and 3, so do I only get maintenance loans for those semesters? I ask this simply because I have bills to pay in semester 1 for my accomodation and I wouldn't be able to pay my rent if I don't get the loan for semester 1. I asked the Student Union at my Uni and they did say that the semester 2 module teaching might be split across semester 1 and 2 but currently i'm unsure about what will happen as I still haven't reached the resubmission deadline.

Hi there,

If you're not doing a full year repeat then the university would send us the Change of Circumstances for your part year repeat with your dates of attendance. We'd need that to reassess your application. We can't say for sure at the moment with the information you've provided that you'd get the funding for September.

Thanks,
Ross

Hi,

I'm still confused and everything is unclear. So I'm going to give an example to try make it clearer.

The three modules I am CURRENTLY resubmitting are only taught in semester 2 (January-April) and semester 3 (April-June).

So if it was like that, where there wasn't any teaching in semester 1, you're saying that I wouldn't get any maintenance loans at all for that first semester as there would be no teaching or classes? This would mean I'd have to leave my accommodation altogether as I can't pay the first rent instalment.

The other question would be, for the payments I DO get, will I get the full payment I'm currently scheduled to get or will my change of circumstances decrease the amount of maintenance loan I get?

The funding would be based off your dates in attendance. If you'd only be studying for 2 terms then your total would be 2 terms worth.

Your uni would need to notify us of your terms you'd be attending so we can pro rata the funding and prevent any overpayments.

Thanks,
Ross
