psychology at uni

hi im deciding between which uni to apply to concerning oxford and cambridge. any recs and reasons why?
Which has the better course for what you're interested in? Or research, teaching? How about the colleges, student life and traditions?

You might get some better results posting in the Oxbridge forums for there specifically, or adding it to your title. All unis will have similar core modules due to BPS guidelines, but the way they are taught can be quite different. It would be worth going to open days for both to see which you like the feel of, or even just a walk around the cities and any open colleges.

Be careful placing too much weight on optional modules and staff members etc, as obviously they are subject to change. As are your interests as you go through uni! But they can be a rough guide if there's an area you particularly want to go into.

i went to oxford so am obvs very biased but i think the oxford course is fantastic particularly if you are interested in cognition, neuroscience and research. their research methods training is very in depth and you can do a pretty ambitious research project in 3rd/4th year. it’s also an integrated master’s course which could be a bonus as cambridge is only a ba degree. however if you’re interested in social sciences too it might be worth thinking about cambridge as the course there includes lots of opportunities to study a range of modules in other disciplines whereas oxford is very psychology focused (you’d have to take PPL rather than EP to study something alongside Psychology). There will be a lot of overlap between the courses because of BPS requirements but those seem like the key differences to me. have a look at the courses in both places in more detail and try and get to an open day or at least visit the cities (you are also choosing where you’d be living for 3-4 years so that’s also something to think about). happy to answer any questions abt oxford if you have any, but i did take the old 3 year BA course structure so it will have changed a bit.

i'd like to apply for the PPL course and study philosophy alongside psychology! my sister goes to oxford too so i am more familiar with the city and colleges there
