PGDE, PGCE, SAAS & funding.

hey guys so i am super lost here because i’ve stumbled across an odd set of contradictions.

so im in my fourth year of uni after this year i want to study english teaching! my first four options are going to be at home in scotland. so i know i’d be doing the PGDE and getting funded for it and i know it gives me 120 masters credits. even though most masters degree don’t accept more than 60 being transferred lol.

but i also wanted to maybe try for oxfords course? kind of a pipe dream but im interested. basically they only really offer PGCE’s over there and they’re obviously a lot more expensive - nevermind living costs etc especially as i’d likely have to leave my two jobs for placement times. the thing is SAAS says they don’t fund PGCE’s but they don’t do PGDE’s over there really.

i also think you can’t get tuition fee support because of the fact that it’s going to be for english and not a STEM subject.

i’ll be 25 by the time i start and want to do it for a year at oxford if possible but it’s seemingly impossible financially. you also can’t have a pay scheme at oxford (i think) so you need to pay it up immediately which is uh not viable for my working class ass lol.

am i missing something or is it genuinely going to be paying out of pocket with no help from SAAS because of their degree technicalities???

i have emailed SAAS but i wondered if anyone had any personal experience.

thank you
