bad gcses but wanna go to king's college london

i want to do biochemistry (AAA) or neuroscience(AAA) or pharmacy (AAB) at kcl and i've done my a levels this summer and i will be taking a gap year and apply for 2025 entry.

i'm predicted to get A*AA on results day (praying)
and my gcses are:
maths - 5
english language - 6
english literature - 5
r.e - 5
combined science - 6,5
geography, sociology, german, history - all grade 6s

what ones should i retake? i was thinking of retaking maths, english language and combined science and hopefully i would get grade 7 or more. and so if i do get grades 7+ on those subjects would i have a chance at kcl??
please pleaseeeeeeeeeeee be honest !!!

If you look at the course prospectus on each of the courses you are interested in taking, then they will tell you if GCSEs will be important or not.

For the most part, if you've passed your GCSEs and meet the minimum A-Level grade requirements for your chosen course, then you won't have to worry about retaking any GCSEs. Seeing as you're also taking a gap year, then this will be a fantastic opportunity for you to get some relevant work experience in the field you are interested in, this way your application will stand out even more.

Good luck!

It doesnt actually matter where you study Pharmacy - its an accredited degree with an identical syllabus at each Uni. There is therefore no 'better' Uni.

The NHS wont ask 'which Uni' and neither will your future patients. When was the last time you asked a nurse, a dentist, a physio or a pharmacist where they trained - they are qualified professionals and that is all that matters.

'London snobbery' has resulted in a silly level of applications at KCL and UCL - they now have to use an extra online test to weed folk out. In contrast, at most other Unis, if you meet the entry requirements, and can briefly explain' why Pharmacy' in your PS, you will get an interview. So why does anyone bother with KCL or UCL - especially given their growing reputation for messing applicants about, delaying decisions - or not making them at all - not answering emails, and generally behaving in a shabby and arrogant manner. Instead you could apply to a Uni that actually wants you.

KCL accept gcse resits for everything but med. So yes if you want to go to KCL then I think you should resit a couple of subjects

Hey i am on the same boat!!! I am hoping to apply to pharmacy this year with grades 5’s and 6’s in GCSE’s.
To boost my GCSE mathematics grade I have re-sat it thrice with grades 5,4,5 each time. I believe these slacking grades are a result of me being unorganised and not prioritising my GCSE alongside my A levels as i found them more important. I was predicted AAA.
I am now a retake student predicted AAB with different A-levels, and an additional EPQ, however i don’t believe i stand a chance against other applicants as the course is highly competitive and i look quite silly.
I have the relevant experience in pharmacy and in retail plus care, however i am unsure as to whether my application would even be considered with such an unreasonable amount of resits.
Any advice would be so truly appreciated, i'm really upset as i have always been incredibly passionate in pursuing a degree in pharmacy.
did you do your a-levels this summer?
