Does anyone at Surrey university know what days year 1 attend in children’s nursing? As looking to get a part time job.
Not went to Surrey okay.
Basically during university studies blocks weeks you'll attend the university approx between 8.45am - 5pm Monday to Friday ( your do approx 37.5 hours per week.).
On placements block weeks your hours can vary for example - you might be working long shifts ( between 7am - 8pm dayshift or 8pm - 7am Nightshift 3 days out of 7 ( hospital wards) There's a possibility that you could work split shifts ( approx times - 7am - 3pm, 3pm - 10pm and 10pm - 7 am Monday to Sunday but you'll have 2 days off during the week)... These times are only a example as the hours will be depending on what the hospital trust you are working under works. As each hospital trust has there own working shifts patterns.
Community placements you'll work roughly the hours of the GP practice you are working in ( Monday to Friday with a day off in the week plus free weekends ) Outpatient department works similar to GP practice hours.
It's possible to work alongside your nursing degree - during university studies blocks weeks I would perhaps concentrate on maybe working weekends to give you a chance to do your coursework paperwork after finishing university for the day or you can do a few hours at night a couple times a week if you want to.
When you are working your placement weeks then it's bit more difficult to work around due to your variable shift patterns you do but you should get your monthly rota which helps you work out things for the month ahead which helps you to work, you need to find a job that is flexible enough with you with your shift patterns. Also need a good manager who supports students working there variable shift patterns.
Another one you can do is apply for the NHS Bank Nursing - Idea for students as you are in control with your hours you can do.
I worked at the time prior to starting university full-time in retailing but I went part-time when I started my university degree course of midwifing, I was probably lucky enough to do that because of already being a established employee and I had to unfortunately transfer to another store due to going to another city ( management was great and was able to accommodate work flexible with understanding that I had to complete my contractual hours on placements weeks or no pay plus disciplinary action). I am back in my home city so I retransferred back to my original store and still working with them alongside my permanent contract job as a registered midwife.
It's doable but remember that you have to prioritise your nursing degree over any part-time job if you can't manage it but majority of students can do it.

All three years you will only attend twice a week. A part time job is manageable in year one. however, ensure its a 0 hours contract as you will need to manage your time better in second year. End of second year and third year you will barely get time to work as you will always be on placement or studying for the dissertation and assignments.
