Clearing A Level Results Day

I'm looking at universities to go into Clearing with (BA History) on A-Level results day in case I don't make my grades (I should make them, but just to deal with my anxiety).

My firm is QMUL with ABB and my insurance is Lincoln with 104 UCAS points.

In terms of universities below 104, I have looked at: Huddersfield, Bournemouth, Wolverhampton, Portsmouth and a few others.

I am also looking at universities with grades above ABB (at my mum's request) and the only ones I find interesting are: Manchester and Southampton. I find the course at KCL, Oxbridge and other's boring. I don't want too many exams (happier with coursework).

I like social history, political history and women's history.
Does anyone have any good universities for either ABB+ or 104 and below that normally enter clearing?

It would need to have good disability services, able to get accessible accommodation and to have good transport links in the city and to London.

Thanks

Hi I hope you are doing well,

The University of Portsmouth offers both a degree course in History and a course in History and Politics. History on it's own requires BBC or BCC grades (104-112 UCAS points) and History and Politics requires BBC - CCC (96-112 UCAS Points). Obviously this is in the same bracket of some of the other options you were looking at. Both courses look at social history as part of the course and look at the role of gender in history so could be a point of interest. Below is the link to the course information if you were interested in finding out more!

There are accessible accommodation options available around the city for students and a service team to help with any inquires. Below I have attached their website and email if you wanted to find out more or get into contact with our team, they would be more than happy to assist!

Portsmouth has good links with London as well with a direct train to Waterloo taking 90 minutes.

I hope this was helpful,

All the best,

Hi @CatLover1

It’s smart to do some research if having lots of information and options to hand helps to manage your anxiety around results day. Just as you’ve done with QMUL and Lincoln, finding a place through Clearing (should you need to) is about finding somewhere where you’ll feel comfortable and at home, so I think spending some time looking for possible back ups that still feel right for you is really important.

The University of Chester offers both single honours History and a combined History and Politics option. History at Chester is popular with students due to its history and heritage. It’s a beautiful historic city and was an important area for the Romans. We’re proud of the fact that Chester is home to the oldest, longest and most complete stretch of city walls in Britain! So, it’s a great setting to learn History and maybe worth considering.

We have accessible accommodation options on our Exton Park campus, which is where teaching for our History and Politics courses takes place. Our Disability and Inclusion team are also based here and offer a number of services.

As for links to London, direct trains are available and take around 2 hours. We’re also nice and close to both Liverpool and Manchester, as well as bordering North Wales.

I’ve added some links throughout so that you’re able to do some reading should you wish, but I’d also be very happy to answer any questions about studying at Chester or applying through Clearing.

Best of luck for results day!
Becky
