Radiography

Im about to start uni and I don’t think I want to do the degree I chose. I was looking into radiography and I think I might do clearing for it but one thing I wanted to know how is the course like. Is it very science based and like is there a lot of sadness in the role (I’d say I’m quite an emotional person, I know when to control them but if it’s constant pain trauma I don’t think I’ll be able to do it) I really want a rewarding Job so if someone could say the pros and cons I’d really appreciate it!!! Also is it an enjoyable job? And as a uni course!!

Hi @dani_learner,

I'm currently a third-year radiography student at BCU, and I can give you some personal experience about the course from my perspective:

1) The course has some fundamental physics-based knowledge that focuses on ionising radiation, radiation protection, etc., as well as some human anatomy and physiology.

2) As a student radiographer, I haven't faced many emotionally intense situations. However, I've encountered patients who are in pain, anxious or seriously ill, but that's a normal part of the role, and the primary responsibility is to obtain high-quality images that significantly aid in the patient’s care. It's rewarding to know that radiographer’s work contributes positively to patient diagnosis and treatment.

3) As an overall course, radiography offers a good balance of classroom learning in lectures and practical skills through clinical placements. I genuinely enjoy the hands-on experience, and I believe the course has prepared me well for a career in radiography.

I hope this gives you a clearer picture of what to expect from a radiography course and helps you decide if it's the right path for you!
Please feel free to ask more question 😊

Hi @damisthebest ,

I might sound a bit biased but BCU was always my firm choice to study radiography. When I was applying it was a clear decision for me, as I was driven by the vibrant atmosphere of Birmingham. My cohort is incredibly diverse, with students from all over England and even Ireland. There's a significant number of BAME students (including myself) and individuals of various ages, everyone is welcoming and helpful, I've never felt out of place.
