Psychology A-Level and Degree

I am currently going into my GCSEs and here are my subjects: Classical Greek, Latin, Music, Drama, Physics, Computer Science, English Lit., English Lang., Maths, Further Maths. Only recently have I gained an interest for a possible career in Psychology. My school offers it at a-level but there is one caveat. I HATE biology. There is no way I am taking it for GCSE or A-Level. Can I still aspire to take Psychology later on without Biology? I would be happy to study biology independently (e.g. reading, research), but I despise it as an academic subject.

Hi! I did psychology a level and I fell in love with the subject! I was also worried about the biological aspect but it's nothing to worry about, the majority of it is simple to understand and there's not much of it at all

Hi there,

Yes, there are many courses such as Cardiff's, where biology is not a requirement to apply for the degree-level course!

I would say, as most university courses have core modules as a requirement of the BPS, you do end up doing a tiny bit of biopsychology/neuroscience. But other than the lectures themselves, your main way of studying is through reading and research (ie, independent study, as you've said) 🙂

Hey @MrMoo21 how are you?

Good luck with your GCSE's, I'm sure you'll do brilliantly and they all sound like such great subjects. I think my favourite GCSE subject when I was a student was English or Media Studies! 😀

It's great to hear you've found an interest in a career in Psychology. Like Fatiha said below, some uni's won't actually require you to have a GCSE or A-Level qualification in Biology to apply, some uni's will also have no subject specific requirements.

Wishing you all the best with your studies!

Most universities actually don't ask for A-Level Biology for Psychology, but be warned that Psychology these days does have a lot of Biology content at uni.
