Thinking about Postgraduate Study?

Have you completed your undergraduate degree? Want to enhance your career prospectives? Love to learn? Want to contribute to research? Then postgraduate study might be for you🎓

There are multiple routes of postgraduate study so I will go through them so you can see which option might be best for you!

PGCert
This is a certificate of postgraduate education. This is some taught modules specialising in the subject area you have chosen!📕

PG Diploma
This is a postgraduate diploma. Is it equivalent of all the taught modules of a masters minus the dissertation!📝

Taught Masters
This is the taught modules and the dissertation element. They are usually a year long or two years part time and require the completion of a dissertation/ extended project! 📖

Masters by Research
This is a masters which is gained by an extended piece of research. You need to make a research proposal and look at a specialised and specific area. You will create an extended piece of research which will contribute to the wider research pool. 💻

PhD
This is a three- six year long degree where you really specialise on a niche area of research. You produce a long and extended body of research. It is a research based degree for students who usually wish to embark on a career in academia or research. ✏️

Here are the main forms of postgraduate study! So why do a postgraduate qualification? 🤨

It can enhance your job prospects! You can gain more senior roles as you specialise in a particular area. It also can set you apart from other candidates and shows your dedication and commitment to the field.

You can also become a specialist in the subject area. You can build on your previous undergraduate knowledge and expand your skills in this particular field.

Equip yourself with more skills! Participating in a postgraduate qualification will equip you with transferable skills that will again further enhance your career prospects. You will be able to expand on current skills and further specialise any skills you have.
