How long do clearing applications take after verbal offers ?

I received a verbal offer and then waited till received the offer email , so that I could decline my offer.

After applying through clearing like I was told I’m just sitting with a “Waiting for the Provider to confirm your place in Clearing”

Is it possible for me to not get in? I’ve heard these offers only last 24hours

Universities often set a deadline (24 hours is common) after they've given you a verbal / informal offer by which time you need to have added them as your Clearing choice on UCAS Hub and formally applied. You've done that, so you've met the deadline.

However, there is no deadline for how long they need to then spend before confirming your place. In theory it should be quick - they just need to check your UCAS application and confirm that everything you've discussed on the phone (e.g. your subjects / grades / etc.) tallies. But for some, it seems to take them a while.

From their perspective there's no hurry. You are now a "captive" student, in that you can't apply elsewhere via Clearing whilst they're making their mind up. So there's no incentive for them to rush this step.

And yes, it's possible for them to see something in your full UCAS application that they're not happy with a decide not to confirm your place, dropping you back into Clearing again. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

Two questions:
1. Which uni is this?
2. How long has your application been sitting at "Waiting for the Provider to confirm your place in Clearing"?
