The Student Room Group

Contingency Plan

Hi all, I’m currently awaiting my results for my choice of university, however, due to the fact that all of my offers were in a similar group, and eventually lost their appeal, I only put one choice down. I was just wondering what are the best steps for me to take just in case I don’t get the results I need, whether I do anything about clearing now, as there are a few universities which I wouldn’t mind going to through clearing if my results do not go to plan, or whether it’s better wait until results day? Thank you!

Hi,
It can be stressful waiting for results, but it will be easier for you to apply to a university through clearing when your results so I would reconmend waiting til results day.
You don't truely know what your results will be until the day and you could end up with the grades you need anyway.

All the best for your upcoming results

Hello @objectionable-re ,

I was in a very similar position to you when I was applying to uni, and so totally understand where you're coming from. As others have said here, there may be nothing to worry about. You get your grades - you're in! However if things don't quite go to plan on the day then yes, there are plenty of genuinely good courses and unis who have clearing places. here's a page where you can find all the UK unis' clearing lists and their contact details, so be sure to have a few ideas in mind and a few contact numbers at hand for the day.

Hope this helps, best of luck

Hi 👋,

I would wait until you have received your results and then make the decision from that point onwards.

However, in the meantime, I would create a list of what universities and courses you are interested in and there clearing hotline numbers

Example:

Wrexham University - Computer Science - 01978 293439

I hope this helps,
