Hi how does it work then is it guaranteed medicine after the foundation year then?

Sure. So, you have to pass with 70% overall and 70% in each module to progress from foundation year to year 1 - as long as you get the grades you're through! A foundation year isn't like year one of a degree - it's bridging a gap so it's more attainable to achieve those grades 🙂

There are 10 places available on the medicine course at Cardiff Uni for USW students with a first year in Medical Science. It's a selection process based on performance.

You can chat about the application process to our Clearing team ☎️ 03455 76 06 06

Hi so with that course do you still have to do an interview and the UCAT exams? Also how does student finance work in this case since your technically undertaking a new degree?

Hi there! At UCLan, we offer MBBS + foundation year for international students!

We also have our Medical Science Foundation Entry for UK students where you can apply to MBBS during the foundation year. This however is not a guaranteed route but it is a route that is available!

If you have any questions let me know!

Are the entry requirements counted by UCAS tariff points?

All great questions. So, yes if you're applying for the Medical Science Foundation course, you don't need to have an interview. You just need to fill out the application form and meet the grades criteria.

The UCAT test is not a requirement for our Medical Science course. However if you're thinking of applying for Medical School afterwards you will need to sit the exam as part of the Medical schools selection process. So you don't have to worry about UCAT just yet.

In terms of finance, yes you will need to apply through Student Finance Wales and our Student Money Advice Team can help you with that. You will need to apply for the first year for foundation, and mid way once you know you're looking to progress, you then apply to extend for the full degree funding.

I really encourage you to give our Clearing Team a call 🙂 they can help you with anything you else you want to know. We also have live chat on our website 👉 https://www.southwales.ac.uk/chat/

Yes, when it comes to applying for medicine, you still have to do the UCAT and get through an interview

In your earlier post you said that students need to achieve 70% across all modules (so a First), but "as long as you get the grades you're through." If UCAT is required this obviously isn't the case. A-level students may also not realise that you're asking for a First class degree and that aspiring medical students will be disqualified if they fall below a First in even one module. I appreciate that it's your job to recruit students to your university, but you're downplaying the difficulty of these entry requirements.
