Higher results - Uni chances?

got my higher results back today and i got 3 As and 2 Bs (A in english, modern studies and bio, B in maths and chem)
I’m overall pretty happy with my results, but now i’m worrying slightly about my chances for getting into uni.
I’m hoping to study english/politics at glasgow or strathclyde and i think i’ve met the requirements but only just.
I’m planning to study advanced english, higher politics, higher history and higher spanish in 6th year and i’m pretty confident i can get good results in those, but i’m not sure if it’ll be enough.
If anyone has any advice on how competitive those courses are and if there’s a possibility i could get in, or if i should start rethinking and apply to different courses that would be really appreciated!

First of all, huge congratulations :yay:
Those grades are wicked!

Second - I wouldn't be worried. Entry requirements exist to set applicants apart and make the jobs of admissions staff easier in whittling down applicants. If you meet or exceed the entry requirements - you won't be rejected for that reason. If you are rejected, it won't be because your Highers weren't good enough.

Third, courses like English & politics aren't as tight on numbers as others. The only thing limiting them is how many people can we fit into a lecture theatre, and do we have enough staff to run enough modules to take everyone. It's not a course with placements, it's not a course with labs, there isn't those major limiting factor on numbers. The funding of lots of universities mean it will often try to "max out" these courses so to speak. Let me be clear though - I am talking generally here about UK universities - not specifically Glasgow or Strathclyde.

Hopefully this has been a little reassuring for you?
