Sqa exam results

Hi
Today i received my exam results in higher and achieved ABCCC and I’m certain this is wrong. For my B which is business I got 30/30 for assignment and im sure I got above 80/90 in question paper so that doesn’t make any sense. For my C which is maths bio and English: maths my teacher created a marking scheme aftwr exam and I got 75% on it so I really don’t understand how I’ve dropped to a C. Same with English I was supposed to get around 80% and got a C. For biology I was 2nd highest in both prelims achieving high A and somehow ended up with a C after finding the exam great. I found all the exams great and I’ve been given grades that I’m certain are wrong. Now I will have to drop my advanced higher maths which is required for my desired course and appeals don’t get a result given back to pupils till October which is after I apply to uni. I can’t even get into my course or do my advanced highers now. I also heard that appeals don’t even remark anymore. Please could someone help.

Hello, sorry to hear that you're disappointed with this :frown:
Have you asked your school for the breakdown of your scores? This is best to be a conversation with them to be honest.

Have your school told you you can't do Advanced Highers? What course do you want to study at uni?

That’s a terrible suitation for starters. But prelims can be misleading and sometimes an exam doesn’t go our way and predicting scores is never a good idea.
I would recommend phoning your school up and explain the suitation and really emphasise how well you did in the prelim. I’m most cases in my school atleast they have alowed students to continue sitting the AH as long as there predicted grade was high enough which yours seem too.
Then obviously appeal but also try your hardest to get a high target grade from the get go too compensate perhaps a lesser strong performance at higher. My freind needed an A at higher maths but got a B so she then got a conditional on the basis of getting a B at AH maths so don’t give up hope

Hi thank you for reply, they said to contact my depute head teacher but he isn’t replying. I want to make a priority appeal but he isn’t replying so I’m unsure what to do. The course I would like to do is accounting and finance at Glasgow uni and I’ve done something called topup to help me get in

Hi thank you so much for the reply. My grade in hifher was a C in maths and my course requires an A in it 😭😭. If I get a predicted B in adv h maths by October do I stand a chance for a conditional offer?

The UCAS deadline to apply for accounting and finance is January, not October. If your school want to submit UCAS applications early that's up to them - equally, your school can wait for the appeal outcome to be returned before yours goes off. That doesn't affect anything.

That’s really reassuring thank you, I’m just worried if I will still get into uni if it doesn’t get fixed

Okay I need to recap:
- ABCCC this year (C in Maths, C in English)
- Wanting to do Accounting and Finance at Glasgow uni
Am I correct?

Glasgow's website says:
https://www.gla.ac.uk/undergraduate/degrees/accountancy/#tab=entry
- ABBB is the minimum requirement from S5 to be reviewed for an S6 offer
- Offers are not guaranteed to applicants who meet the minimum from S5
- Typically offers will be made at AAAAAB by end of S6. B at Advanced Higher is equivalent to A at Higher
- Additional requirements: Higher Mathematics and English at AA. (AB may be considered).

So, you need ABCCC to become ABBB(C). You need two of your Cs to become Bs.
But also, you need at least one of Higher Maths or English to be an A, minimum. Ideally you'd want both - that's the sticking point
What were your plans for courses to take next year?
If you were taking Advanced Higher Maths or English or both; get that to an A or B, that knocks off the Maths or English or both requirement. But if you don't feel you will enjoy that and don't feel you will be very successful at it I would think carefully.

Have you thought about other universities besides Glasgow? UCAS lets you apply to 5

Hi, firstly thanks so much for taking the time to give me all this info. I completed a course called topup which is set my Glasgow uni. This adjusts my grades and makes them lower to get into uni. I need minimum ABB in s5 and AAABB in s6. I’m confident I will get minimum B in adv h maths as that’s my strong point. Adv h accounting i know k can get an A. I’m only really considering Glasgow as I want to break into investment banking so Russel group is really important. I’m certain these aren’t my real grades and will appeal them but if they don’t get fixed is that all my chances of Glasgow uni gone? In taking 2adv h next year and 2H and I think I have potential to get an A in them all especially considering I’m going to study daily.

Does your adjusted offer state anything about English and Maths specifically?

Accounting

So the Maths / English rule is where you will most likely come undone for Glasgow if the appeals don't go your way.

How much research have you done about other unis?

Have you found in your research that being part of the Russell group doesn't actually mean anything?

And it depends, possibly

I’ve found that for finance it is really important that’s why I’ve been scared. I know I can’t get into Edinburgh with this so glashow is my last hope. I am really convinced I should have an A in at least maths and 100% B in English if not A. Just really gutted

A little advice from someone who was in a similar position as you last year and am now starting at Glasgow for vet med, on results day I got AAAAC with the C being in English which was a shock since I was scoring high in prelims so I appealed it and got my grade moved up to a B. But only about 11 out of over 170 appeals for my school got upgraded so I wouldn’t get your hopes up but if you truly feel it’s wrong then all you can do at the moment is appeal and wait I’m afraid (mine came through in early November)
Firstly they do make mistakes marking sometimes however last year the SQA refused to do remarks only recounts not sure if that’s still the case but if so it’s sh**
Also I was able to apply without the B I needed as I just let the unis know I was appealing and emailed them when the appeal came through however had my grade stayed the same I would have been rejected
Usually unis will allow you to get grades by the end of s6, is this an option?
