I’m writing my personal statement and wanted to know if I should specify what type of law I want to do but the thing is I don’t know what area of law I want to do

You aren’t studying law to become a lawyer, you’re studying law because you’re interested in the subject (I would hope). Instead of talking about which areas of practice you’d like to go into, talk about which areas of law interest you in an academic sense. Are there any particular areas of law you enjoy reading around or learning about?

I am also writing my personal statement for law at the moment - unis definitely prefer that you focus on the academic side instead of practical. What supercurriculars have you done and where are you applying?!? Good luck<3

A personal statement should reflect why you want to do that course. A law undergrad is not solely for people who wish to practice in the future and there is certainly no need to know which area of practice you want to go into if you do qualify. I would suggest writing about what has drawn you personally to the course and why you are interested in law as an academic subject.
