Difference between H Bio and H Human Bio?

I bet this has been asked so so many times, but I have my options interview after results in 2 days, I got a B in higher chemistry and am considering a second science. What would you guys recommend out of biology and human biology?
As for stuff like "what do you want to do in the future" I'm not too sure other than potentially starting off in college then going to uni. I'm autistic and struggle with transitions so I want to go to a more 'familiar' environment if that makes sense?? So it really doesn't matter which one I pick as I'm not fully sure exactly what I'd do at college just now.

I beg for anyone's help rn cause I'm really freaked out 🤣

Hey, I sat Higher Biology last year and thoroughly enjoyed the course (got an A!)-

There are a couple of topics which are in both biology and human biology, such as respiration, mutations, gene expression etc. (more general biological processes), however I would just say it is down to your own personal interests and preferences. Biology goes more into depth with ecology (eg. social behaviour, biodiversity, photosynthesis) as well as metabolism, whilst human biology focuses heavily on areas such as the heart and brain as well as reproduction. Ultimately, neither course is 'better' than the other, and your final grade will be equally as valuable in either of them, it's just down to what you would find most interesting to learn about. On BBC Bitesize you can check out the topic lists for both courses so you can see what you think. Honestly, I would recommend either, and there is no need to panic- it's a great subject to consider!

Hope this helps

Hiya, right first of all - it's totally fine to walk into that interview and say "look, I'm not 100% with this". You're allowed not to be totally sure. Breathe.

For you it depends what you think you'd do well at - biology including plants, ecosystems, animals? Or more of the human anatomy, organ systems, human diseases? From what you've studied so far - what have you enjoyed more of?

Can I ask what your full set of results are so far? That might help me make a couple of suggestions for pathways you could go down.

And actually, this hasn't been a common question today - I've had very few people open to lots of possibilities. Most people have 1 or 2 specific uni courses they want to go to in 2025 and want to know if their Highers so far will get them there.

Thank you for the reassurance for the interview

I do quite like animals, but I had a look at human and it looks slightly more interesting (not the biggest fan of plants lol, still sounds rlly cool though and I think if I learned more about plants I'd potentially be interested in them)

My results were straight A's at nat 5 and 3 A's and 2 B's at higher this year (Eng, music, and spanish were my A's and chem and maths were my B's).

I have been looking into something sciency but have also been researching things to do with psychology as I feel like I'd enjoy that if that helps you

Is there a reason you haven't gone that sciencey in your choice of subjects so far? :beard:

Might want to have a bit of a logic to this direction in your mind when you walk into the interview.

That's not to say they'll put you on the spot and ask you why - but I'm suggesting you think about why you want to branch towards the sciences given your talent for Music and Spanish.

Honestly, i think you should see the course spec for both and see which part of biology you would like more- l picked higher biology and I quite liked it, for me it was a easy A and the assignment was pretty easy. Not sure about higher human though as my sister says it's much harder

According to my teacher, who taught both biology and human biology, the content in human is harder but the exam is more straightforward
