Hi im currently going through the same thing, im still in tears over my higher results to be honest. Could i ask what you got? After going down a rabbit hole of google searches and threads and all i found was people saying to email the university to ask for advice, so thats what i did. Although im still studying for my UCAT because i have hope but i too am a bit lost, ill reply back on this if i find anything else.

I’m doing my higher’s and i got all D’s which i’m completely shocked about considering i had no social life during study leave and studied even before exams were beginning im so upset dentistry is all ive ever wanted to do and im searching up if unis accept resits and they don’t and i have no idea what i should do now
Hey both,

I just wanted to drop in and comment that if you've not already done so - please do reach out to the universities offering Dentistry this week and ask for their advice. In Scotland I think it's only Glasgow and Dundee. Many universities are available via phone/live chat this week and it's not just for S6s - it's for advice for S5s too. Email admissions teams and let them know how you got on, and ask what you'll need to do in order to be considered in the future. If you're quite far off what they're looking for they may recommend further study (picking up more grades in S6) backed up with an alternative route/gap year for example.

Although it seems rubbish just now it'll feel easier in the days to come. It might take you longer to get where you want to be but if you're ready to take some extra time and apply yourself in S6 and beyond then there'll be a route in.

Have you had a look at similar careers like a dental hygienist or dental nurse? Or other careers like an optician, podiatrist, or radiographer? I don’t know what the entry requirements for these are, and they will likely be higher than what you currently have, but may be more accepting of resits. Look at unis like QMU, Glasgow Caledonian, RGU, UWS etc. they do a lot of the vocational courses and might have less strict entry requirements. You could also look at doing an HNC or HND with the view of going to one of those unis after. Speak to your teachers, you will certainly not be the first or last person they have taught who’s been in your position, so they should be able to advise you on what your next steps might be.

Would add that it’s not the end of the world, and there are definitely lots of good careers out there if you can’t get into dentistry.

the radiography i looked into and the only course i can find for it is diagnostic imaging however I’ve seen some people say you need to have a medicine degree, i’m just a bit confused considering there’s a course for specifically radiography

I’m not sure, the entry requirements for RGU are BBBC at Higher for example (https://www.rgu.ac.uk/study/courses/975-mdrad-diagnostic-radiography), but my guess is that there are some roles within radiography that require a medicine degree, and others that just need this course. You could always email the uni and ask about the difference?
